This routine "disease of the week" weepie treads no new territory. The medical condition - a genetic allergy to sunlight - has been featured on screen before. And often in rather better movies. Seventeen-year-old Katie (Bella Thorne) has lived a nocturnal life since birth as exposure to the rays of the sun brings her out in potentially fatal lesions. That makes it rather problematic for her burgeoning summer romance with hunky Charlie (Patrick Schwarzenegger), especially as he spends two-thirds of the movie unaware of her condition, and probably thinks she's a vampire. Schwarzenegger (son of Arnold) is pretty enough, but a bit of a blank canvas. Fortunately, Thorne is convincing, and comedy actor Rob Riggle, playing it pretty straight as Katie's dad, steals all his scenes. The result is a corny, contrived and something of a "meh movie that will principally appeal to those who like a good, old sob.
