Insidious: the Last Key

The fright franchise reaches a satisfying conclusion in this teasingly twisted nightmare. Series stalwart Lin Shaye returns as ghost whisperer Elise Rainier, who journeys to her family home in New Mexico to exorcise the demon she unwittingly released during her traumatic childhood. This fourth instalment pretty much treads sinister waters until a gasp-inducing plot pivot related to a Death Row penitentiary. Meanwhile, a further trip into "The Further" provides both unsubtle shocks and creepy closure. Once more, slight relief is provided by Elise's psychic sidekicks Tucker (Angus Sampson) and Specs (series writer Leigh Whannell), and there's smart support from Bruce Davison as her sceptical sibling.
