Parasitic worms literally mess with people's heads in this unnerving tale of a viral apocalypse from the co-directing team of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Nerve, Paranormal Activity 3 and 4). The directors made a name for themselves back in 2010 with their unexpectedly menacing documentary Catfish, and a similar low-key approach is effective here, as teenage sisters (played by Sofia Black D'Elia and Analeigh Tipton) battle to survive infection and martial law-imposed quarantine in a small-town America. There are no prizes for narrative originality as friends and family fall victim to the slobbery symptoms of "worm flu". However, the siblings' abrasive relationship remains an emotional anchor at the heart of the horror, even when a party turns nasty thanks to one ghoulish gatecrasher, causing the disease to come distressingly close to home.
