Our Score
The dull side of being a superhero is explored in this independent British comedy about Bob, a government-sanctioned caped saviour who uses his day off to go out on a date. Opting for a low-fi approach, the film wins you over with a funny script rather than elaborate action scenes. Writer/star Brett Goldstein is likeable in the lead, a timid everyman overwhelmed by what has happened to him, hilariously bemused as he deals with endless world-saving admin and resentful residents of Peckham. Amid the laughs there is also an appealing charm to Bob's clumsy quest for love, as well as some clever satire of the sillier side of world politics (personified by co-star Catherine Tate as Bob's highly strung government superior). Working within its low budget limitations without ever feeling cheap, this is a light but effective comedy that offers something new in a genre where almost everything has been explored.

A postman becomes a superhero after being hit by a meteorite, and spends the next six years working round the clock to keep the world safe. When he finally has a day off, he arranges a date with a woman he meets in a library - but resuming his love life after such a long break may be his greatest ever challenge. Comedy, starring Brett Goldstein, Catherine Tate and Natalia Tena.
