You better watch out. You better not cry. There's a very different sort of Santa Claus coming to town. He's the titular Krampus, a figure from European folklore who is, in essence, Father Christmas's evil twin, with claws, cloven hooves and horns. While Santa rewards the children that are good, Krampus abducts and punishes those that are bad. So, when a young boy (Emjay Anthony) loses belief and bah-humbugs Christmas, mum Toni Collette, dad Adam Scott and their obnoxious extended family find their home besieged by Krampus and his dark army of elves, demonic toys and killer gingerbread men. Krampus himself is a little late putting in a proper appearance, but it is worth the wait. And a cop-out ending rather detracts from the dark path that the film has been hurtling down. Still, it nicely blends horror and humour, delivers scary stuff at its best, and is well worth the watch if you're sick to the stomach of traditional Christmas slush.
