I Am Wrath

This thriller stars John Travolta as a former US Special Forces operative out for revenge after the brutal slaying of his wife. Enlisting the skills and weaponry of an old military buddy (Christopher Meloni), his pursuit of the killers leads him to discover that the murder may not have been an act of random violence, but part of a larger conspiracy. Director Chuck Russell stages a by-the-book yarn that is over-reliant on a succession of action set-pieces, none of which offers viewers anything they haven't seen before. There's little in the way of character development, and no true sense of jeopardy, while a wooden Travolta scowls his way through skirmishes with cartoonish villains. Only a wisecracking Meloni gives the film a much-needed injection of personality.
