Bigger is unfortunately not better in director Greg McLean's workmanlike sequel to his own Ozploitation classic, which reduces terrifying serial killer Mick Taylor (John Jarratt) to a smarmy cartoon maniac. Arrogant cops and German backpackers provide easy prey before Mick drags a British tourist (Ryan Corr) back to his underground lair for a spot of mental and physical torture. Although placed on a far larger outback canvas, with an exciting truck chase and a rather silly digital kangaroo massacre, Wolf Creek 2 screeches to a halt at the midpoint as Corr takes part in a quiz where wrong answers result in finger loss. This endless sequence finally segues into some decent surprises as Mick's bolthole reveals even sicker secrets but, by then, it's too late to save this awkwardly grisly black comedy from trashing the memory of its once-frightening "pig-hunter".
