Last year, at the start of 2025, we were treated to a new season of BBC war drama SAS Rogue Heroes, a show which was later renewed for season 3, which is expected to air at some future date.

Now, we have just got an update on the new season's progress from creator Steven Knight, as we caught up with him exclusively for our video interview series The Radio Times Writers' Room, in which we get to know what makes screenwriters tick.

When asked whether season 3 is still in production, Knight said: "Yes, we're just shooting at the moment. It's in France, and I can't say any more than that, but it's coming out beautifully."

Knight was also asked how long he would ideally like the series to run for, to which he said: "Yeah, I mean, you never know – because, until something is in production, you never know. But I would like to take it to the end of the war."

The third season of SAS Rogue Heroes, which stars Jack O'Connell, Sofia Boutella and Dominic West, will be set in 1944, and will see Paddy Mayne and the squad parachuted deep behind enemy lines.

The synopsis says: "Alongside the French resistance and new recruits, the SAS once again face seemingly unsurmountable challenges, as the liberation of Western Europe begins."

In his conversation for The Radio Times Writers' Room, Knight also discussed his work on Peaky Blinders, A Thousand Blows, House of Guinness and more – while also teasing the upcoming James Bond movie, for which he is writing the script.

Steven Knight's interview for The Radio Times Writers' Room will be available to watch in full on Friday 9th January.

SAS Rogue Heroes seasons 1-2 are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer. A Thousand Blows season 2 is coming to Disney+ on Friday 9th January 2026 – you can sign up to Disney+ from £5.99 a month now.
