A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 is striding into its final act, with a whole new status quo after Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) revealed his true identity as Targaryen prince Aegon.

In the words of showrunner Ira Parker, it leaves hedge knight Duncan (Peter Claffey) in a difficult position, as the "stable boy" that he'd been giving "a lot of s**t" suddenly becomes a figure of authority.

"We've flipped the dynamic pretty significantly," the writer told GQ. "Obviously, [Dunk] has been betrayed in a number of ways, but also has to sort of grovel at the feet of this prince and be careful what he's doing here."

Egg's deception could well have called an end to Dunk's mentorship, but recollections of his own turbulent youth are a major factor in his decision to find a path forward.

"He knows that Ser Arlan took him on as a very much an unfinished product and saved his life," explained Parker. "Dunk would've been hung as some thief in Fleabottom before his 18th birthday if it hadn't been for Ser Arlan.

"I think he has, when it comes to Egg, a lot of forgiveness in his heart. He feels as though Egg was sent to him so that he could do for this kid what Ser Arlan did for him and pay it forward."

With all cards now on the table, there are just two chapters left in this quaint and charming Game of Thrones spin-off – here's when you can expect A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 5, and an overview of the show's full release schedule.
