Our Score
Director David Anspaugh made his name with the gritty if overrated basketball drama Hoosiers, and he's back battling for the underdog in this less than convincing American football feature that's based on a true story. Sean Astin plays the pint-sized gridiron fanatic who is determined to play for a college team, despite the lack of encouragement from the sporting establishment and his parents. Astin is adequate and he has effective support from the likes of Ned Beatty, and youngsters Jon Favreau (Swingers) and Lili Taylor (The Haunting). However, at times it is both overly sentimental and unintentionally funny.

Sean Astin stars as a youngster who dreams of enrolling at a college famous for producing footballing stars and battles to win a place with help from a kindly gardener - despite his apparent lack of athletic and academic prowess. Average drama based on a true story, also starring Ned Beatty and Charles S Dutton.
