Our Score
Seventy-five years after her first comic book appearance, Wonder Woman is finally the star of her own feature and it doesn't disappoint. The fourth entry in DC's Extended Universe is as witty and heartfelt as it is thrilling. Gal Gadot reprises her role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while Patty Jenkins (Monster) directs an origin story that sees the warrior princess drawn into the First World War after rescuing Chris Pine's crash-landed pilot. Together with a ragtag crew they set out to thwart Danny Huston's rogue general, whose behaviour is jeopardising the imminent armistice. As the Amazonian superwoman storms a battlefield in magnificent, surging style, her rocky theme adds punch and personality. And her ferocious principles feel true to creator William Moulton Marston's noble, feminist vision. The electrifying action is complemented by a stirring story, while Jenkins delivers a heroine who lives up to the majesty of her moniker and stands apart from her superhero brethren, not just in her gender but in her well-communicated ideals. Wonder Woman reminds us that, at their finest, such films inspire us to be all that we can be.

An Amazon princess has her first encounter with the outside world during the First World War, when an American airman crash lands on her isolated island home. Determined to bring the chaos sweeping the world to an end, she ventures onto the front line in the war to end all wars to bring down an ancient and powerful evil force that is driving the human race towards destruction. Superhero fantasy adventure, starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and David Thewlis.
