Emmerdale's Steph Miligan is set to depart the village as actress Georgia Jay goes on maternity leave.

Georgia joined the soap in November, expanding the Fox-Miligan household as Ruby (Beth Cordingly) and Caleb's (William Ash) daughter, and family relations weren't exactly the best.

"We've not been great, we've damaged her quite a lot. So when she appears back, it's definitely a big opportunity to kind of start fresh," Ash previously told RadioTimes.com of the family dynamic.

But things turned dark very quickly when Ruby exposed her father Anthony as an abuser, who had fathered Steph. And now, Steph will reportedly "flee abroad" in the coming weeks.

Earlier this year, Ruby murdered Anthony and Steph struggled to cope in the aftermath as a number of the residents helped to cover up Anthony's death, with everyone keeping schtum on what really happened to him to protect Ruby.

The Sun reports that Steph's temporary exit will happen in the next few weeks as Jay prepares to welcome her first child.

A spokesperson for Emmerdale declined to comment when contacted by RadioTimes.com.

Georgia announced her pregnancy last month as fans began to notice her baby bump in scenes, with the actress sharing the happy news on Instagram.

"As you've probably guessed, i've got some news to share," Georgia captioned a post. "I know some of you have been wondering if you've been seeing a little bump on screen lately... well, it's not your imagination... I'm having a baby!"

She continued: "We've never been so excited and a little nervous all at once. Thank you for all the love and support."
