Taskmaster's Alex Horne has revealed that there's some surprises in store for the forthcoming 21st season of the hit series.

Chatting exclusively to Radio Times at the press night for Till The Stars Come Down at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on Wednesday (9th July), when asked if there was anything different that fans can expect, Horne revealed: "There are two things that are new. We're filming somewhere as well as the house – somewhere that's pretty mad."

He also added: "And we have a special guest this series from somewhere exotic who you'll recognise. That's all I can say."

So, what exactly could that riddle be pointing to – perhaps a cast member of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel? We joke. While there's no telling about who Horne could be hinting at, it's safe to say that our intrigue is only piqued for season 21.

As of now, Taskmaster fans have the season 20 line-up to get excited about, with that being revealed earlier this month after the season 19 final aired.

With Horne and Greg Davies putting them through their paces, the upcoming line-up of talent features plenty of well-known faces including Reece Shearsmith and Sanjeev Bhaskar, as well as stand-up comedians Ania Magliano, Maisie Adam and Phil Ellis.

Speaking about his stint on the show, Horne said: "20's coming out soon. All going well. We're just in the middle of filming the next one and I'm still enjoying it. I'm still weirdly finding it exciting."

As in every series, fans can anticipate plenty of hilarious challenges being thrown in the cast's way. The season 19 line-up consisted of stand-up comedians Fatiha El-Ghorri and Stevie Martin, Ghosts star Mathew Baytnon, The Good Place alum Jason Mantzoukas and broadcaster Rosie Ramsey.

With the Taskmaster season 19 winner having been crowned earlier this month, all eyes will be on the 20th (and 21st) seasons to see how it will compare in both the comedy and line-up stakes. Of course, we don't have any further information around the season 21 line-up just yet but with Horne's own clue about who could be appearing as a special guest, we'll just have to wait and see.

While it's a way off yet, we can anticipate the season 21 line-up to be announced after the final of season 20, which doesn't yet have a confirmed release date.

Seasons of Taskmaster have generally dropped in March and September each year, but seeing as season 19 aired slightly later in May, it's possible that the 20th may be landing on our screens later than usual also.

Taskmaster is available to stream on Channel 4. Season 20 is coming soon.
