Rob Brydon is back on TV screens with a thrilling new reality series, and while it has nothing to do with Gavin & Stacey in the slightest, it didn't take long before the jokes came rolling in.

Destination X kick-started tonight on BBC One, treating viewers to a new show based on observation, deduction and alliances as 10 players travel across Europe by coach – except they have no idea where they are and have to guess each day where they have ended up.

Given their mode of transport, it wasn't long before taxi driver Daren asked Brydon, "It's not Dave's Coaches, is it?" offering a nod to a sore point for Uncle Bryn in the latest Gavin & Stacey special.

The 2024 Christmas special revealed that Gwen (Melanie Walters) had been swept off her feet by none other than Dave Coaches, which Uncle Bryn was less than impressed with.

But as Daren soon came to realise, this journey couldn't be further from a trip from Barry to Billericay, as he and the other contestants journeyed across Europe.

But Brydon has teased that tensions could be just as high as the series progresses, with the presenter explaining how the relationships between the players can change overnight.

During a Q&A ahead of the series launch, Brydon told RadioTimes.com and other press: "The great thing is watching how the relationships alter and shift and how trust is sometimes misplaced between contestants, that was delicious.

"And sometimes I'd arrive the next morning, and we used to get a little report printed out of what had happened on the bus. The conversations of, 'Well, so and so said to so and so and so and so said this.' [It was] like getting a really juicy newspaper each morning."

Destination X continues on Thursday 31st July at 9pm on BBC One.
