There has been much debate over the last few years over just who should pick up the James Bond mantle after Daniel Craig, but one 007 First Light actor reckons the man is staring Amazon and MGM in the face.

Lennie James plays John Greenway, Bond’s mentor in 007 First Light, so it’s safe to say the man knows the ins and outs of what makes a good MI6 agent.

During the BAFTA Games Awards 2026, actor Lennie James presented Jennifer English with the best performer award for her portrayal of Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Before this, however, the Radio Times Gaming team managed to catch up with James on the red carpet, where we talked about all things 007, and he reckons young Bond actor, Patrick Gibson should be in the running, saying "the people in control would be mad" if he isn’t already.

That’s quite the statement, but James is absolutely certain, saying Gibson is "fantastic in our version of Bond, and I genuinely think he should be a candidate for the main role that they're trying to find someone for".

Perhaps with Lenny Kravitz featuring as the 007 First Light villain, we'll get to see him pop up in a future Bond movie, too.

If Gibson doesn’t get picked for the films, it seems like he’ll still be able to play Bond for a good while yet, as 007 First Light developers IO Interactive have teased future sequels that would feature him. In an interview, 007 First Light senior producer Theuns Smit said development was "like a hand fitting into a glove" after making Hitman, so the will is definitely there.

With Lana Del Rey having put out a Bond anthem, who Bond composer David Arnold said was a perfect fit, it would seem strange for the buck to stop with the first game. Hopefully, it is a critical and commercial success, so that Gibson can Bond it up ad infinitum.

Sadly, Nintendo-stans won’t be able to experience Gibson as young Bond for themselves until the summer, as 007 First Light has been delayed for the Switch 2

And if IO Interactive does continue with 007 First Light sequels, we reckon they can learn a thing or two from the James Bond novels, despite the game not being official canon.
