The Voice UK 2013 finalists: Mike Ward

We rate his chances, get the latest gossip and re-live his original audition and best performance

From: Salford

Age: 23

Team: Tom

Backstage gossip: Mike has reacted to people who have been kind enough to take some time out from their busy lives to tell him that they hate him. “Stop Hating I’m here your not, just let me do what I have to do  all I wanna do is sing haha,” he tweeted. “#jeez,” he added.

Audition: Don’t Close Your Eyes

Road to the final: Three out of four judges turned round for his blind audition, but Mike didn’t emerge as a possible winner until Tom Jones, slightly surprisingly, gave him a “fast pass” from the knockouts. Jones declined to repeat that in the first live show, instead supporting Joseph Apostol – but Mike beat him in the semi-final, meaning he has now won two public votes.

Bookies’ odds: 9/2

Best performance: Picking Up the Pieces

RT verdict: A massive, massive dark horse. Mike is manly but sensitive and sings country and western in a low, smooth voice, a hot combo that host Holly Willoughby admitted last week made her go all funny, sex-wise. He may well be having that effect on a lot of viewers, and his very specific genre appeal gives him an edge.
