The new production – which is being helmed by Focus Features and Working Title Films – had already previously announced the likes of The Sandman star Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne and Daisy Edgar-Jones as Elinor Dashwood, but has now rounded out its cast with plenty of notable stars.

Outlander star Caitríona Balfe is joining the cast as Elinor and Marianne's mother Mrs Dashwood, Joan's Frank Dillane is Marianne’s initial love interest John Willoughby, and Killing Eve's Fiona Shaw will star as Mrs Jennings, someone who both sisters stay with when they visit London.

1917's George MacKay joins the cast as Elinor’s love interest Edward Ferrars, while Herbert Nordrum (The Worst Person in the World) will star as Marianne’s later suitor Colonel Brandon and Bodhi Rae Breathnach (The Capture) is the youngest Dashwood sister, Margaret.

Of course, this is far from the first time that the Austen novel has been adapted, with the most notable version being the 1995 film which starred Kate Winslet and Emma Thompson, the latter of whom also wrote the screenplay.

This time around, best-selling author Diana Reid is on writing duties for the upcoming movie, while BAFTA nominee Georgia Oakley will be directing.

As well as being known for her starring role in all seasons of Outlander, Balfe is also known for her BAFTA-nominated role in Belfast and, more recently, her part in The Amateur.

As for Shaw, she is of course known for her roles in Killing Eve, the Harry Potter films, Andor and plenty of other titles.

She has more recently starred in Hot Milk and Echo Valley, having also featured in True Detective: Night Country and Bad Sisters.

Sense and Sensibility follows two sisters, Elinor (Edgar-Jones) and Marianne (Creed-Miles), as they navigate love, loss and expectations of them following the death of their father, which leaves them in financial uncertainty.

It was the first novel penned by Jane Austen and was published back in 1811, but at the time was published anonymously.

Forced to leave their estate in Sussex and downsize after the loss of their father, Sense and Sensibility sees the family move in with a distant relative in Devon, but it's there that Elinor and Marianne experience their first loves and heartbreak.

This upcoming film has some big shoes to fill, not least because the 1995 movie amassed seven Oscar nominations, including best picture, best actress and best writing (adapted screenplay), the latter of which Thompson bagged.

While there's no release date yet confirmed for this movie, production has now kicked off in the UK, so we can anticipate plenty of exciting updates in due course.
