Last time we saw Jesse Pinkman he was a trainwreck, driving off into the distance, sobbing, as his one-time partner was left bleeding to death.
But while we're all aware of the trail of destruction Walt left in his wake, Vince Gilligan's hotly anticipated Breaking Bad prequel, Better Call Saul, provides the opportunity to revisit an easier way of life for Jesse, played by Aaron Paul, who is tipped to make an appearance in the new series.
So given the opportunity to ask the man himself, we wanted to know how Paul would like to make his appearance in Saul Goodman's earlier years?
"It's a prequel so it's before Walter White came into everyone's lives and destroyed them. It would be nice to see Jesse in his lighter days... I would like to play him happier. It would be nice to see him happier."
Does he see himself delighting Breaking Bad fans by extending his stay beyond his rumoured cameo appearance? "This is Bob Odenkirk's show about Saul Goodman – his whole story. It would be nice to do an episode or two. It's really up to Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould. I'll do whatever they want – I love them to death and Vince Gilligan gave me a career."
Interesting. So, if we twisted Gilligan's arm and got him to write a bespoke prequel/sequel for Jesse... "That's a nice thought but, to be honest, Jesse Pinkman was exhausting. I loved him to death and I was very honoured to play him but I don't know if I could do another series where it was Jesse."
Aaron Paul stars with Pierce Brosnan, Imogen Poots and Toni Collette in A Long Way Down – released today in UK cinemas nationwide. Watch the trailer below...
