Should Shooting Stars be cancelled?

The news that Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer's spoof panel show, Shooting Stars, is to be axed by the BBC has caused something of a stir.

Online petitions and Facebook groups have sprung up urging the corporation to reconsider its decision, while last night Twitter was buzzing with comments, the vast majority bemoaning the cancellation of a beloved show.

Times critic Caitlin Moran branded the decision "a genuine outrage", adding: "I hope some other channel snaps up Shooting Stars immediately: it's one of the best comedy shows of the last 20 years", while The Guardian's Grace Dent called Shooting Stars "so innovative, cerebral and f***ing funny it made my heart soar the BBC made it."

Radio Times Twitter followers had mixed feelings, with @Jonathas tweeting: "That's nuts. Last series was best in ages. Boo", while @JamesSutton FANS said: "And not before time. Why on earth did they bring it back?" and @PeterLewins called the decision "disappointing but inevitable".

RadioTimes.com user mikegingold said: "Typical of the BBC to axe one of the funniest and most original 'quiz' shows ever. How about saving money on some of the 'Celebrity...' rubbish?" while others suggested Vic and Bob should look for a new home. "I hope they go to ITV," said Sarah Webb. "Time for DAVE to step in :)" was Stephen Lee's suggestion.

So what do you think? Is it time for Shooting Stars to call it a day, or are the BBC making a mistake? Vote in our poll and post a comment below.
