Following the first casting announcement for the new Tomb Raider series back in September 2025, fans have been dying to see Sophie Turner in costume as Lara Croft.

Well, that wait is finally over, as Amazon MGM Studios has officially unveiled the first look at the former Game of Thrones star in the iconic adventuring get-up – celebrating the news that production is now under way on the latest adaptation.

Clad in the character’s hallmark ensemble of shorts, a green tank top, red shades, fingerless leather gloves and multiple gun holsters, Turner evidently looks the part.

Alongside the iconic costume, the X-Men star’s pose is very much reminiscent of the cover art from the original trilogy of Tomb Raider games.

The reveal comes hot on the heels (or, in Lara Croft’s case, combat boots!) of the announcement that The Thursday Murder Club and The Celebrity Traitors star Celia Imrie will also be joining the cast of the upcoming Prime Video series.

Imrie is set to play a new character named Francine, the head of advancement at the British Museum. Other big-name additions to the cast include Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs.

The Avatar and Alien icon Weaver will portray Evelyn Wallis, a mysterious woman keen to exploit Lara’s talents, while Harry Potter and The White Lotus star Isaacs will play Atlas de Mornay – one of the franchise’s canon characters.

Other roles from the iconic games confirmed to feature include Zip, Lara Croft’s long-standing tech support and trusted friend, who will be played by Martin Bobb-Semple.

Meanwhile, the Croft family’s long-serving butler Winston – fondly remembered by many ’90s kids as the character they locked in the walk-in freezer – will also make an appearance, with Outlander and House of the Dragon actor Bill Paterson bringing him to life.

The upcoming Prime Video series is led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the Emmy-winning creator of Fleabag, and follows her work on Mr & Mrs Smith, which she later departed from.

Waller-Bridge signed an exclusive three-year deal with Amazon back in 2019 and is now spearheading the Tomb Raider reboot alongside co-showrunner and executive producer Chad Hodge.

Turner said in a previous statement: "I’ve been a long-time fan of Tomb Raider and the character of Lara. She has always felt for me, very emboldened in a male dominated world. She’s a fierce female role model!"

Following her leading roles in HBO’s Game of Thrones, two X-Men films and Prime Video’s upcoming Steal, Turner is clearly on a winning streak - and Tomb Raider looks set to continue it.

A release date for Prime Video’s Tomb Raider, which follows the adventures of world-famous archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft, has yet to be confirmed – but fans may want to dust off their dual pistols and PlayStation games, as Croft is officially back in action.
