As we head towards the second season of Dexter sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection, a major addition to the cast has just been announced.

Joining Michael C Hall in the new season will be none other than Brian Cox, the actor who in 2023 wrapped up his time on acclaimed HBO drama Succession.

Cox, an Emmy, Olivier and Golden Globe award winner, will be playing a character dubbed The New York Ripper, a serial killer who terrorised the city years ago.

The description of the character says: "Though no longer active as a killer, he’s found a new way to live into his infamy by continuing to taunt the survivors of his long-ago murder spree."

The New York Ripper was set up in the first season of Dexter: Resurrection, with Kadia Saraf's Claudette Wallace and Dominic Fumusa's Melvin Oliva finding documents identifying him as a Mr Don Framt.

As well as starring in Succession, Cox has also appeared in series including Doctor Who, Good Omens and 007: Road to a Million, as well as films such as Manhunter, The Bourne Identity, X2, Troy, Zodiac, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.

Further details of what we can expect in season 2 are currently under wraps, including which returning cast members will join Hall and Cox, and who else will be joining the cast fresh for the new episodes.

When season 2 was first confirmed back in October 2025, Hall said in a video posted to social media: "Hey, what's up, it's Michael C Hall here. First of all, I just want to thank all the fans for tuning in and taking the Dexter: Resurrection ride with us this summer. Hope you enjoyed it.

"And, secondly, we've been greenlit for another season. There's more to come. The writers' room is assembling now and details will be forthcoming, but I wanted to be the first to let you know that the story continues."

Dexter: Resurrection season 1 is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
