Who’s hosting the Brit Awards 2019?

Jack Whitehall (Getty, EH)

The ceremony will be hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall for the second year running. The Fresh Meat star took over presenting duties in 2018, but hosts before him have included Davina McCall, Chris Evans, Russell Brand, Kylie Minogue and Dermot O'Leary.

Whitehall was a hit with critics and viewers on his debut outing, winning praise for his one-liners and jokes aimed at the likes of Olly Murs and S Club 7's Paul Cattermole... Although he's since gone on to deliver some rather half-hearted apologies.

Who’s performing at the Brit Awards 2019?

Hugh Jackman will be opening the ceremony with a song from The Greatest Showman, in which he played circus ringmaster P.T. Barnum. The soundtrack to the hit movie was the biggest selling album of 2018 in the UK and won at Grammy at this year's ceremony.

Jackman's Instagram account has given us a sneak peek of the scale of the show's first number, with reports suggesting it will include 150 dancers and an appearance from host Jack Whitehall in the final 30 seconds:

Calvin Harris is the headliner at the Brit Awards this year, and his performance will feature appearances from his collaborators Dua Lipa, Sam Smith and Rag'n'Bone Man. This means it's likely that their tracks Promises, One Kiss and Giant will be on the set list.

Other performances on the night will include Little Mix, George Ezra, Jorja Smith and The 1975.

Who's going to win at the Brit Awards 2019?

With just hours to go until the results are announced, fans are making a late flurry of bets on George Ezra and Dua Lipa to win in all of their nominated categories.

In the last few days, Ezra has moved from 10/1 to 6/1 to scoop British Single for Shotgun, British Album for Staying at Tamara's and the coveted Best British male soloist award, according to bookies Sportnation.bet.

And fellow Brit and double Grammy winner Dua Lipa is now just 2/1 to win both British Single of the Year for IDGAF and British Video of the Year for the same track.

Meanwhile, Ariana Grande is odds on at 4/9 to take home International Female Solo Artist.

"Such is the dominance of three acts at tonight's awards, all bets are off on George Ezra, Dua Lipa and Ariana Grande," said a Sportnation.bet spokesperson. "Expect them to romp home in every category as they continue to dominate the British music scene."

Who will be awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award this year?

Pink will be honoured with the coveted prize, which has not been presented at the Brits since Blur won it in 2012. Other previous winners include David Bowie, Spice Girls and Elton John.

“I am so honoured to be recognised with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at the 2019 Brits!” Pink said in a statement.

“Since the beginning of my career the British fans have been some of the most fierce and loyal in the world. I am humbled to receive this honour and be in the company of an illustrious group of British icons!”

Where is the Brit Awards 2019 ceremony taking place?

The ceremony will be at The O2 Arena in London where the Brit Awards have been held every year since 2011.

What do the Brit Awards statues look like? Who designed them?

The statues for this year's Brits have been designed by architect Sir David Adjaye.

Cast in solid glass, the trophies take the form of Britannia, the female personification of Britain. Adjaye has designed a slightly different version of the character's traditional form.

"My take on the Brit trophy is the manifestation of a great material forged in fire and shaped into the body of a woman. She is unique, and proportionally she is very different," said the architect.

Previous Brit Award statues have been designed by Vivienne Westwood, Damien Hurst, Tracey Emin, Zaha Hadid, Peter Blake and Anish Kapoor.

How can I get tickets for the Brit Awards?

Want to get a slice of the action live from inside the 02 Arena? Then you're in luck, as tickets are on sale to the general public now on the AXS website.

They are being sold for £121.75 each and up to four tickets can be purchased at one time. Under 15s must be accompanied by an adult.

Who votes for the Brit Awards?

Who chooses the nominees?

The first stage in the process sees the Official Charts Company (OCC) compile a list of the hundreds of albums that were released in the eligibility period. For singles, the analysis starts with the top 1,000 selling singles. The OCC then submits the final list to The Brit Awards team who are responsible for the voting procedure.

Over 1,000 music enthusiasts make up the Voting Academy, and they represent every sector of the music industry: from record labels and managers to agents, media, and nominated artists from the previous year. The Academy members then select their top five choices in each category from the list of eligible artists, albums and singles, and their votes result in the shortlist of nominees.

Who votes for the winners?

The Academy then chooses their favourite out of the nominees to determine the winner in the majority of categories. Except for those chosen by the public...

Can the public vote in any categories?

Yes. You can vote in two categories: British Breakthrough Act and British Artist Video of the Year.

British Breakthrough Act voting is open on the Brits website until 5:30pm on Friday 15th February.

The voting for British Artist Video of the Year takes place on social media from 4th February until 15th February at 4pm. Here's how to take part in the social vote and how to find out the designated hashtags.

Stormzy won British Male Solo Artist and British Album of the Year with Gang Signs & Prayer, while Dua Lipa landed British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. The Gorillaz were awarded Best British Group and Rag'n'Bone Man won Best British Single with Human.

Awards aside, the real stand-out moment of last year's ceremony was Stormzy's powerful Grenfell call-out.

“Yo Theresa May, where’s the money for Grenfell? You think we forgot about Grenfell?” he asked during his electric performance as he highlighted the scandal of the Grenfell Tower fire and the treatment of survivors.

He also used his time on stage to lay into the Daily Mail and celebrate Black Panther star Daniel Kaluuya’s Bafta win. Footage of his performance went viral immediately and the grime artist became a global talking point.

Who won at the Grammys this year?

Kacey Musgraves won album of the year over Cardi B and Drake, while Childish Gambino won Record of the Year and Dua Lipa beat fellow Brits nominee Jorja Smith in the best new artist category.

Who has won the most Brits?

Robbie Williams holds the record for the most Brit Awards, having earned 13 as a solo artist and another five as a band member in Take That. Coldplay and Adele have each won the second-most Brits, taking home nine awards respectively.
