    Summary:

An action-packed animated adventure based on the comic created by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley. Seventeen-year-old Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun) faces the same challenges as any young man his age with one exception: his father is Omni-Man (JK Simmons), the most powerful superhero on Earth. Trapped in the shadow of his old man, Mark faces the seemingly impossible task of making an impact on the world separate from the heroic legacy of Omni-Man. The teenager develops strange powers and struggles to harness these abilities under the watchful eye of his mother Debbie (Sandra Oh). 'You need to decide what kind of hero you want to me,' she counsels him tenderly. The internal conflict threatens to tear Mark apart until he discovers that the high esteem in which his father is held might not be wholly deserved

    Why watch Invincible?:

Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, Minari) leads this animated series adapted from the comic book of the same name by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. The stellar Invincible cast also includes JK Simmons, Sandra Oh, Gillan Jacobs, Walton Goggins and Zazie Beetz, in case you needed any more incentive to tune in.

Yeun’s Mark Grayson is just a normal teenager – except for the fact that his father, Nolan (Simmons), is the most powerful superhero on the planet. But Mark’s life grows more complicated when he begins to develop powers of his own – and learns a dark secret about his family.

The long-awaited second part of season 2 finally premiered this month, with plenty of shocking developments after the cliffhanger ending to the first part. With episodes continuing to be released, there's no way of knowing how this series will wrap up but just prepared for quite the wild ride.

    Summary:

Best friends resolve to learn the truth about a shocking disappearance in a six-part comedy thriller created and written by Charlotte Coben set in present-day Liverpool. Five years after Peter (Olisa Odele) vanished in mysterious circumstances, 20-something twin sister Jess (Vivian Oparah) is unable to move on with her life. Accompanied by Peter's boyfriend Elliot (Bilal Hasna), the grief-stricken duo party to excess to numb the pain, forever haunted by what happened to the young man that binds them. Elliot begins a relationship with Will (Marcus Hodson) as someone contacts Jess, claiming to be Peter. As the world spins off its axis, a tenacious Detective Chief Inspector (Peter Serafinowicz) seeks answers and Elliot's bigoted grandmother Francine (Penelope Wilton) doesn't hold back from sharing her unwanted opinions.

    Why watch Dead Hot?:

It's no easy feat following in the footsteps of your series creator and hit novelist father, but Charlotte Coben goes out on her own in this new series that has comedy, thriller and mystery all built into one. While the new series does suffer from its share of uneven pacing and perhaps trying too hard to be quirky, the series is a great watch if you're looking for something altogether different to shake up your schedule.

Overall, it's a series all about living with grief as we follow Elliot (Bilal Hasna) and Jess (Vivian Oparah) who are bonded by the trauma of losing Peter, the twin brother of Jess and also who happens to be Elliot’s first love. It's an intriguing tale of navigating your twenties, friendships and trying to figure out what happened to Peter – and one thing's for certain, you won't be bored watching this series.

Daring surgeons (and inseparable best friends) Dr Klak and Dr Sleech work at The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy where they frequently risk everything to take on the most dangerous cases in the universe.

Why watch The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy?:

Prime Video are slowly but surely bringing out some animated hits, but this latest addition to the streamer may just usurp them all. The new series follows Dr Sleech and Dr Klak as they tackle all kinds of medical and alien-related problems. With everything from anxiety-eating parasites to deep-space STIs, this series obviously focuses on the medical tasks at hand but has the sci-fi tones of Rick & Morty, while also being very hilarious.

We can't forgo mentioning the terribly star-studded cast in the series as well, with the likes of Natasha Lyonne, Keke Palmer, Stephanie Hsu and more all lending their voices for the show. If you're looking for a slightly random hoot of a watch, then look no further.

    Summary:

New TV show based on the 2005 movie starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, here created by Francesca Sloane and Donald Glover. One asset (Glover) of a global spy agency is offered the perfect cover story for his high-risk missions: a new identity, John Smith, an arranged marriage to fellow spy Jane Smith (Maya Erskine) and a luxurious home in Manhattan to maintain the illusion of wedded bliss. John and Jane immerse themselves in the lie and publicly mark relationship milestones while they conduct espionage around the world. When they begin to experience genuine feelings for each other, the sharp-shooting operatives question their commitment to the killing game.

Why watch Mr & Mrs Smith?:

Recreating a film as a TV series is no easy feat but actually, this re-imagining of Mr & Mrs Smith has done a great job of taking what you thought the series was going to end up being and flipping it on its head.

The series follows two people who are employed by a secret spy organisation to complete dangerous missions for a big sum of money. Glover and Maya Erskine star as newly appointed John and Jane Smith who, in the midst of these missions, start to develop real feelings for each other. The love story is a sweet one, interspersed with some tense action sequences, but the series also packs a punch with its star-studded cast, that will take you by surprise almost as much as how watchable this series is.

    Summary:

Set against the complex tapestry of Hong Kong residents, Expats depicts a multi-faceted group of women after a single encounter sets off a chain of life-altering events that leaves everyone navigating the intricate balance between blame and accountability.

    Why watch Expats?:

If you’ve seen Nicole Kidman in the likes of Big Little Lies or The Undoing, you’ll know she does a frazzled, wealthy mother character rather excellently – and since all of these roles feel very similar tonally, the real gems of Expats are more in the performances from her co-leads, Sarayu Blue and Ji-young Yoo.

These three women each represent a different facet of the expat community in Hong Kong in 2014 and, set against the political backdrop of the time, the series also gives a voice to the underrepresented domestic workers who have come to the wealthy city with hopes for more. Class and privilege are interrogated with detail, while the cinematic feel of the show will keep you engaged throughout.

Eli Whipp, a retired Pawnee scout out to claim his birthright, meets Cornelia Locke, an Englishwoman hell-bent on revenge. Drama, starring Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer

    Why watch The English?:

This Western series, a collaboration between the BBC and Prime Video, was one of the most acclaimed shows of 2022, picking up both BAFTA and BAFTA Craft Awards nominations and garnering some exceptional reviews. Plus, it stars Emily Blunt, Chaske Spencer, Rafe Spall and Toby Jones, among others – what’s not to like?

It’s a thrilling revenge story which goes to some dark places, but is also rooted in a deep exploration of character. It is one of the most visually striking Westerns ever put to screen, too, with bold, bright colours to contrast some of the darker subject matters. It flew somewhat under the radar when it first aired on the BBC, but is definitely worth checking out.

If Nathan Fielder’s buzzy new comedy-drama The Curse, co-starring Emma Stone and Benny Safdie, has piqued your interest, you might want to go all the way back to the show that put the Canadian comic on the map.

Nathan for You is a hilarious documentary-style series in which Fielder attempts to help struggling businesses to overcome whatever issue is plaguing them – the catch is: his suggestions range from terrible to utterly bizarre.

Often, the situation will escalate in ways you would never have imagined, with the comedian’s deadpan, somewhat sociopathic character standing hilariously in contrast with whatever chaos is unfolding around him.

    Summary:

US Marine-turned-CIA agent Jack Ryan swaps the big screen for the small via this new series, with John Kraskinski in the lead role. The plot follows Ryan as he's forced to quit his desk job to return to the field after uncovering a series of suspicious-looking bank transfers, leading him on an international jaunt while trailing terrorists planning an attack

    Why watch Jack Ryan?:

John Krasinski may have seemed like a left-field choice to play Tom Clancy’s hero Jack Ryan when he was first cast, but boy did he quickly prove any naysayers wrong. Over four high-octane seasons, Krasinski made the role his own, while a supporting cast including Wendell Pierce, Abbie Cornish and Michael Kelly made the world feel fleshed out and each episode a joy to return to.

The plots were as twisty as you would hope for from a spy series such as this, and things were brought to a satisfying conclusion at the end of the final season – bar a potential spin-off for Michael Peña’s Domingo Chavez. All in all, if you’re looking action and spy thrills, you’re unlikely to be disappointed.

    Summary:

As the hunt for the next James Bond to replace Daniel Craig continues, 18 everyday people are given the opportunity to live like 007 in a daredevil new reality series produced by the makers of the film franchise. The nine pairs including a married couple in search of adventure, retired police officers and A&E nurses compete for chance to win £1,000,000 by completing gruelling challenges and answering questions set by a Machiavellian mastermind known as The Controller (Brian Cox). One wrong answer removes a team from the game as the series globetrots like Bond from rugged Scottish Highlands and the Chilean desert to the canals of Venice and sun-kissed coast of Jamaica. Only the bravest and most knowledgeable contestants will reach the final episode shaken with fear but not stirred

Why watch 007: Road to a Million?:

While it’s likely to be a marmite show, 007: Road to a Million is not without its defenders. The first project to come out of Amazon’s acquisition of MGM is a reality competition in which a selection of Bond fans tackle nerve-shredding challenges in pairs – all for a chance of winning up to £1 million.

Overseeing the contest is none other than Brian Cox, fresh off his Succession buzz, who slips into a villainous character known as The Controller. His presence adds an air of both novelty and prestige to the proceedings, which in reality aren’t far off a glammed-up version of Race Across the World or I’m a Celebrity.

If you’ve enjoyed those similar shows, this one may well be worth a go. But if you’re not a reality fan and the idea of a Bond show without Bond makes your skin crawl – well, this might not be for you.

These gifted students put their moral boundaries to the test, competing for the university’s top ranking, and a chance to join The Seven, Vought International’s elite superhero team. When the school’s dark secrets come to light, they must decide what kind of heroes they want to become.

    Why watch Gen V?:

If you’re a fan of The Boys but worried that this college-set spin-off might tone things down or shy away from the original show’s more outrageous sensibilities, then never fear – this new series is just as gory, crude and provocative as the original show, and just as wildly entertaining.

Gen V stars Jaz Sinclair as Marie Moreau, a young supe attending Godolkin University, who uncovers a dark secret at its heart. This eight-part first season introduces us to a host of well-rounded, engaging new characters, while also featuring enough links to The Boys and cameos to make this feel like a cohesive universe.

Perhaps most impressively, the show stands firmly on its own as an independently brilliant superhero satire – fans of the genre and Prime Video’s more gritty take on it will find a lot to like here, whether they’ve seen The Boys or not.

Nineteen-year-old Cootie (Jharrel Jerome) has been raised by his aunt Lafrancine (Carmen Ejogo) and uncle Martisse (Mike Epps) in Oakland, California since he was an oversized baby. Now 13 feet tall, Cootie has never left the family home but he is intensely curious about the outside world where a mogul called Jay Whittle (Walton Goggins) has brought his self-created crusader of justice, The Hero, vividly to life to combat crime. Cootie breaks out of his shelter and shocks the outside world with his gargantuan size, embarking on a belated joyride through adolescence in the company of fun-loving neighbours. Unfortunately, Cootie's unusual size sows seeds of fear and Whittle weaponises The Hero to strike down a real-life miracle that challenges his status as the only superhuman in the city

    Why watch I'm a Virgo?:

From the brilliantly creative mind of Boots Riley – who wowed critics with his debut feature Sorry to Bother You – I’m A Virgo is a coming-of-age story like no other.
