This 1950s-set comedy drama is from Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of Gilmore Girls, and it shows: it’s similarly warming and watchable.
Its protagonist is a wise-cracking Jewish housewife, but the show is far from fluffy, thanks to the performance of Rachel Brosnahan as the titular Midge Maisel: there’s steel in her portrayal of a woman who leaves her cheating husband to become a stand-up comedian.
