With the release dates set for later this month, a whole host of new images have been released, giving us new looks at Helen Mirren's Elizabeth, Pierce Brosnan's Ron, Ben Kingsley's Ibrahim and Celia Imrie's Joyce.

We also get to see Naomi Ackie's Donna and Henry Lloyd-Hughes's Bogdan, as well as getting our first glimpses of David Tennant's Ian, Daniel Mays's Chris and Tom Ellis's Jason.

The images were released alongside a brand-new trailer, which shows off plenty of new footage, and introduces us to some of these supporting characters properly.

The synopsis for the film, which is based on Richard Osman’s international best-selling novel of the same name, says that it follows "four irrepressible retirees - Elizabeth (Mirren), Ron (Brosnan), Ibrahim (Kingsley) and Joyce (Imrie) - who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun".

The synopsis continues: "When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands."

The film has been directed by Chris Columbus, who previously helmed the first two Harry Potter films, Mrs Doubtfire and Home Alone.

He has already expressed an interest in returning to direct sequels, which would no doubt be based on Osman's follow-up novels.

He told Collider earlier this year: "Because of Richard Osman's writing, I was able to cast one of the best acting ensembles I've worked with since Harry Potter.

"Making this film was a dream. I truly hope I am fortunate enough to make a sequel. And another sequel. And another sequel..."

The Thursday Murder Club will be released in cinemas on 22nd August before landing on Netflix on 28th August 2025. Sign up for Netflix from £5.99 a month. Netflix is also available on Sky Glass and Virgin Media Stream.
