The next entry in the long-running young adult franchise takes place between the original films and the 2023 prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, with an all-star cast stepping in to play key characters from the series lore.

The latest recruits to the line-up are Young Royals star Edvin Ryding and Unstable's Iris Apatow, who are set to play Capitol University students Vitus and Proserpina, who help to prepare the District 12 tributes for their coming ordeal.

Notably, Proserpina is also the younger sibling of Effie Trinket, who will be played by The Great's Elle Fanning in Sunrise on the Reaping (who takes over the role from original quadrilogy star Elizabeth Banks).

After breaking out on Netflix's young adult LGBTQ+ drama Young Royals, Swedish actor Ryding recently leapt on to the big screen with a supporting role in Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later, which coincidentally also starred Sunrise on the Reaping's Ralph Fiennes.

The Harry Potter alum will be taking over the role of Coriolanus Snow, originated in live-action by the late, great Donald Sutherland, with Tom Blyth bringing a younger version of the character to life in a prequel from his point of view.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has garnered plenty of attention with its casting choices thus far, with several big names tapped to reinvent iconic characters at an earlier stage of the franchise timeline.

In addition to Fiennes and Fanning, the roster also includes Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman and Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, roles memorably played by Stanley Tucci and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the original films.

Iris Apatow is the daughter of prolific Hollywood producer Judd, who has appeared in several of his projects (such as This Is 40, The Bubble and Netflix's Love) and recently joined the cast of Disney Plus romantic drama Tell Me Lies.

Sunrise on the Reaping will be directed by Francis Lawrence, who has helmed every Hunger Games film to date bar the very first, with Captain Phillips screenwriter Billy Ray on scripting duties.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled for a cinema release in November 2026.
