Thanks to the show's fans tweeting away, Dave has revealed that the first episode of Red Dwarf's tenth series will go out on Thursday 4 Ocober 2012.
Only yesterday the channel sent out an appeal to dedicated Dwarfers encouraging them to post messages on Twitter containing two different hashtags which, once detected by Dave, would help inflate a balloon with the returning sci-fi sitcom's air date inscribed on its side (yes, you read that correctly).
Happily, the public responded in droves and the inflatable was filled by 3:00pm today. (And, in fact, you can now see a very suspicious-looking "live stream" of the balloon's "progress" at Dave's Red Dwarf website.)
The show's tenth series will be the first new Red Dwarf on TV since 2009's mini-series Back to Earth, and the first to have been shot in front of a live studio audience since series six in 1993.
Commenting on the quality of the new series, Robert Llewellyn, who plays Kryten, recently said: "I could try and be all self-deprecating and depressed because I don't want to raise your hopes too much, but I just can't do that. Red Dwarf X is way better than I ever dared hope."
While you're waiting for October to roll around, check out the tenth series trailer and a clip from one of the new episodes.
