There was an upsetting prospect for Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) in Wednesday's (6th August 2025) Emmerdale, as her grandmother and potential surrogate Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) became convinced there was bad news ahead.

With Charity and husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) having been at odds over her decision to try and carry a baby for Sarah, the couple got back on track and headed out on a walk at Mack's suggestion.

But disaster struck when Charity, still in the waiting period after having an embryo transferred, tripped and fell.

They rushed home so she could rest, and Charity insisted to Mack that everything would be fine, deciding not to tell Sarah what had happened.

With Sarah and her new fiancé Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) fussing over Charity at home, she suggested throwing the pair an engagement party at the Woolpack in a bid to get them to back off.

But just as the festivities were in full swing, Charity found that she had been bleeding - and it was her ex-fiancée Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) who was there during the sad realisation.

It wasn't long before Mack was made aware of the situation, and Charity was left with a dilemma over when to tell Sarah as she didn't want to ruin the happy occasion.

But later, Sarah could tell that something was wrong, forcing Charity to explain about the bleeding.

Charity gently told Sarah that she didn't think the embryo had taken, leaving the pair devastated.

However, for those who like to know what's coming up ahead of time, the storyline will take another turn next week - and by then, things are looking up!
