It's the end of the road for one Emmerdale villain, and a beloved Coronation Street resident - both meeting their maker during the epic Corriedale crossover episode.

The devious Dales character is of course John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), with his reign of terror coming to a dramatic conclusion following a battle with a shotgun.

He's been on the run for months, having caused the deaths of two men and dragging archenemy Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) off the side of a cliff. In recent weeks John has become increasingly desperate to reunite with his hubby and eradicate brother Robert (Ryan Hawley) from his life.

At Christmas he tried to poison Robert with carbon monoxide, and then aimed the gun at him. Luckily, Aaron was hot on his heels and stopped the bloodbath, convincing John that he was secretly devoted to him and was prepared to run away to France.

However, when they went to leave, Aaron grabbed the weapon and held it towards John, telling him to drive to the police station and hand himself in. He complied, until they reached a dark and stormy road and tried to stop him.

Taking his eyes off the road and hands off the wheel, he went smashing into the car driven by Becky Swain (Amy Cudden).

In true John style, he thought he could still escape and ran off into some woodland while a series of other vehicles smashed into one another. Corrie copper Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) was aware of his wanted status and rushed in his direction, with Robert and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) following suit.

Kit was knocked out, and when Robert tried to intervene and grab the gun, Cain was shot. Yikes!

John then disappeared, but he didn't get off scot-free. One of the closing shots of the episode showed his half-sister Vic (Isabel Hodgins) stood over his lifeless body, in complete disbelief at what she's done.

Will she get away with the crime?

Meanwhile, at Hotten General, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) cradled a traumatised Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby). They were, of course, mourning the loss of archdeacon Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank).

Billy was driving the minibus that was ignited in the wake of the collision, and couldn't get out because his seatbelt was stuck in the clip.

Twisted abuser Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) climbed into the turned-over bus, for once seeming to do the right thing and rescue him. But this wasn't the case.

Billy was the only one aware of Theo's abuse of Todd, and just seconds after he managed to free himself from the belt, Theo clipped it back in and scarpered. Then came an explosion, in which he perished.

Will Todd ever be able to escape Theo's clutches?

It's safe to say that the effects of Corriedale will reverberate around the two soaps' respective environs for a long time to come...

Corriedale can be streamed on ITVX.
