The first season of George RR Martin's favourite Game of Thrones adaptation has officially ended – and it's safe to say Dunk and Egg have stolen everyone's hearts in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Peter Claffey's Hedge Knight just about made it out alive to continue his journey with his young squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) – who, it was revealed in episode 3, is an actual Targaryen prince.

But what will happen next and where will their journey take them?

Read on for everything we know so far about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 release date speculation

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 will be released in 2027, it has been confirmed.

The potential release date hasn't been narrowed down further than that, but we wouldn't be surprised if it comes early in the year – perhaps even in January, to mark a year since season 1.

Progress seems to be going swimmingly on season 2, as it's already filming.

Showrunner Ira Parker recently told The Hollywood Reporter of season 2's production: "It’ll still be six episodes. I think the scope will be the same, maybe even smaller.

"The budget has stayed the same, but everything is more expensive due to inflation. Plus, book two takes place in a drought, so we can’t shoot exteriors in Belfast. We have to go to a sunny location with no water, which costs money – that’s a major expense that we did not have in season 1.

"I’m having a lot of fun with season 2. It’s going to be a different season, and, I hope, for the better."

Who will be in the cast of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2?

Of course, Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell will return as Dunk and Egg in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2.

If the series follows the novellas, we'd expect the majority, if not the entirety, of the rest of the cast to be different this time around, with Egg's family, including his father Maekar (Sam Spruell) not set to appear this time around.

What we do know is that season 2 will be based on the second novella, The Sworn Sword, meaning these characters will appear:

  • Peter Claffey as Dunk
  • Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg
  • TBC as Lady Rohanne Webber AKA The Red Widow
  • TBC as Ser Eustace Osgrey of Standfast
  • TBC as Ser Bennis the Brown

What will be the plot of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2?

We won't give too much away here, but it will follow the second novella in the series, The Sworn Sword, which sees Dunk and Egg travel to The Reach.

While there, they get involved in a dispute between Lady Rohanne Webber (whose reputation as The Red Widow precedes her) and Ser Eustace Osgrey.

Parker has also been speaking a little about what fans can expect, with the showrunner telling Radio Times and other press: "We're gonna see Egg get into the action a little bit. Dexter's been training. I think people are gonna be impressed."
