Peep Show fans cheered across the nation following the news that some of its beloved stars would be reuniting for a festive-themed special of The Great British Bake Off.

Tonight (25th December), David Mitchell, Olivia Colman, Isy Suttie, Matt King and Sophie Winkleman all reunited for the first time since Peep Show wrapped in 2015, as they whisked, kneaded and decorated their way to glory.

While fans were delighted that five of the stars were returning to TV screens, they couldn't help but be disappointed that Robert Webb would not be appearing in the show – well, about that...

Although he didn't get the chance to compete in the show, Webb filmed a special video for the cast to share his apologies that he couldn't be there.

Webb previously told RadioTimes.com he was unable to take part due to a prior filming commitment, which meant he couldn't make the journey to the iconic white tent for the show.

"I couldn't do it, I was working," the 53-year-old explained. "I do a kids' show called High Hoops, which is about a girls' basketball team for CBBC, and I was in Yorkshire doing that.

"I was already being very mean about my availability for them, so if I'd asked for another three days off, I think it would have been very unfair."

The star noted that he was "sad to miss out", before sharing: "I sent a little video saying 'I'm sorry I can't be there', so, in a way, I'm on TV at Christmas without going through the aggro of any baking!"

Though Webb added he has never baked in his life, ultimately it was his work commitments that stopped him filming the special.

He joked: "Some of us have got to work for a living – not like Olivia Colman!"
There is plenty more Bake Off goodness on the way, as The Great New Year's Bake Off returns on New Year's Day at 6:40pm on Channel 4, with returning favourites Nelly, Briony, Selasi, Tasha, Rahul, Val and Giuseppe all back in the tent for some festive fun!
The Great Christmas Bake Off 2025 is available to watch on catch-up on Channel 4.
