Danny Dyer has reportedly signed up for The Celebrity Traitors series 2, as casting gets underway for forthcoming season of the reality show.

Dyer, best known for his work as Mick Carter on EastEnders, is said to have turned down the chance to appear on season 1 but after watching the show his mind soon change.

A source told The Sun: "Danny was always top of The Celebrity Traitors wish list but had zero interest until seeing the fun and games last autumn.

"As soon as his tune changed, it was all systems go."

A spokesperson for the BBC said: "We’re not commenting on speculation but details about series two of The Celebrity Traitors will be announced in due course."

Dyer is no stranger to the world of the Traitors, having appeared in a parody sketch of the show for Comic Relief in 2023.

The source continued: "Danny is a reality TV booker's dream signing and will be incredible value, as he’s naturally funny but in a totally different way to Alan Carr.

"Bosses don’t want to repeat the same formula and he’ll be absolute gold. As we saw with Daisy May Cooper for series one, things can change at the last minute, but Danny looks all set to join filming up in the Highlands later this year."

The first outing of The Celebrity Traitors was a roaring success for the BBC, with the series finale achieving an incredible viewership of 15 million.

This was the biggest on demand audience of any series across the market at seven days since records began.

Shortly after the series came to an end, the BBC confirmed its renewal, alongside the publication of a new Economic Impact Report, which revealed that The Traitors franchise – including the UK, US, and Celebrity editions – has generated an estimated £21.8 million boost in Gross Value Added (GVA) to Scotland’s economy since filming began in 2022.

Hayley Valentine, Director of BBC Scotland, said: "The Traitors is an immense TV success story and it’s fantastic to have multiple versions of it filmed in Scotland. We welcome and celebrate it.

"This report highlights the many ways that Scotland is seeing a direct economic benefit from The Traitors filming here and, working together with our partners, we will use this success to promote sustainable growth within Scotland’s creative industry."

Celebrity Traitors season 2 is coming to BBC One later this year. Season 1 is available to watch now on iPlayer.
