Paddy Dingle (Dominic Brunt) is keeping a mammoth secret in Emmerdale.

The beloved character - who has seldom put a foot out of line - witnessed father Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) murder Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) last month, and has since launched a complex scheme to keep the secret under wraps.

After dumping the body into the back of Jai Sharma's (Chris Bisson) van, his first move was to take his dad off to a remote cottage and work out a plan to introduce him back into society after being enslaved by Ray and his mother Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths).

However, when Bear went walkabout, he was quickly discovered by Caleb and Ruby Miligan (William Ash and Beth Cordingly), who alerted the police.

There's been several close-encounters since, with Paddy nervously floating around Bear to ensure he didn't slip up and expose the fact he was now a killer.

"Most of his spare time and probably all the way through the night, he's thinking, trying to stay one step ahead and trying to save his family," Brunt explained to RadioTimes.com and other outlets at a recent junket.

"He's kind of succeeding, but he's got that paranoia that the police are going to ask a question and he's trying to show face and keep it there but he's not very good at that."

He continued: "I think he truly believes that they'll get through this, it'll go away and nobody will be blamed and it'll just become a village secret.

"But soaps being soaps, there's got to be a moral outcome. His worst fear is that it all unravels and of course I think it does. I think! I know about two weeks ahead."

Speaking of the character's future, and what may lie ahead, Brunt revealed that one of the first people he confides in is wife Mandy. Actress Lisa Riley recently teased that she returned to filming as soon as she left the I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! jungle, and will be back on our screens mid-February.

"He definitely confides in Mandy," he revealed.

"I think there's an episode coming up with me and Mark [Charnock], just a two-hander, where we spill the beans to each other and we become bonded again, which is lovely because they've got a three-decade-long friendship.

"So that'll be really great, I'm looking forward to that."

Paddy and Marlon have supported one another before, attending a men's mental health club that was established in the village. Brunt believes that eventually, when the storyline comes to a close, we will see the turmoil begin to take its toll on his wellbeing.

"He'll probably just collapse and it'll hit him then," Brunt concludes.

"But at the moment he feels so guilty and blames himself for what happened to his dad, and feels very strongly that he has to put Dylan first, because he's got his life ahead of him."
