The Pitt’s Noah Wyle reveals what about the acclaimed medical drama has gone under-reported

It's been a long time coming, but finally the first full season of acclaimed and multi-award winning medical drama The Pitt is now available to watch.

The series has arrived as HBO Max has debuted in the UK, having originally started airing in the US back in January 2025. Since then, there has been plenty of reporting on how accurate the show is to the real-life experience of medics, as well as what an incredible drama it is.

However, while speaking exclusively with Radio Times, Dr Robby star Noah Wyle has said there is a key aspect of the show which has gone under-reported since it arrived – its humour.

Asked for something UK viewers heading to the show might not know about yet, Wyle said: "There's humour. There is humour. It's not all blood and guts and drama.

"Sometimes in these harrowing scenes and environments, it's the sense of humour, the gallows humour, that gets the characters through. So I think that's probably something that hasn't been reported."

Meanwhile, Katherine LaNasa, who plays charge nurse Dana Evans, said that the show is "more comforting to people than people might think".

She said: "You think it's going to be just all blood and gore, but I think a lot of people actually feel very comforted by the show, because they're watching people take care of other people and put themselves on the line for other people. So I think a lot of people love it for that reason."

Across its first 15 episode season, The Pitt charts a single shift at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, following the medics as they go about their working day and deal with patients with all variety of ailments.

Speaking with Radio Times, Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO for HBO and Max Content, recently explained that he and his team saw a gap in the market, because "a lot of the people were chasing us [HBO], doing seven or eight episodes, prestige series, limited series, whatever".

He continued: "One of the things that kind of got neglected was, for lack of a better word, broadcast-style shows… so more than seven or eight episodes – in the case of The Pitt, 15 episodes – and really the ability to return on an annual basis, which is somewhat of a lost art."

The Pitt season 1 is available on HBO Max in the UK now. Season 2 begins on 2 April.
