This new instalment sees the pair rekindle their romance just in time for their spring semester at Baird College but when it comes to these two, we know that the course of true love never did run smooth.

Brand new this season is Alex (Costa D'Angelo), who is a mysterious psychology grad student who also moonlights as a drug dealer.

While it's already been teased that he does have a complicated past with Bree, Alex crosses paths with Lucy throughout the course of the series.

Teasing what's to come with Lucy and Alex, Grace Van Patten told RadioTimes.com exclusively: “Like every season, the boys that Lucy encounters are usually just these vessels for the projection of her relationship with Stephen.

"So you kind of see her learn more about herself and through this new person, it’s crazy. I can’t say too much more.”

With episodes being released weekly from Tuesday 13th January, fans will just have to tune in to find out which direction their dynamic goes in, as well as what exactly Lucy comes to learn about herself.

The Tell Me Lies season 3 synopsis continues: "While they promise things will be different this time, past indiscretions hinder their best intentions, and Lucy finds herself embroiled in a controversy she wants nothing to do with.

"Meanwhile, the disastrous repercussions from the previous year also force Lucy and Stephen's friends to face their own destructive behaviours. As scandalous secrets fester around campus, vicious consequences threaten Lucy and everyone in her circle."

As well as Van Patten and White returning to the series, other familiar faces include Cat Missal, Spencer House, Sonia Mena, Branden Cook and Alicia Crowder, who all reprise their roles.

Of course, as per the timeline of Tell Me Lies, things unfold in both their college years in 2008 and later in 2015, when they're slightly older and all brought together again.

Season 3 left on quite the dramatic cliffhanger, with Stephen taking his revenge to new heights in order to exact trouble in 2015. But as for whether that will have consequences, we'll just have to wait and see.

Tell Me Lies season 3 premieres on Disney Plus on Tuesday 13th January. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream.
