Mare of Easttown season 2 gets major production update from Kate Winslet
It seems there is now a "strong likelihood" that season 2 will get made after all.

When it was first released to rapturous acclaim back in 2021, the team behind HBO drama Mare of Easttown were clear that it was a limited series, with no second season planned.
Over the years since, Winslet has said that the series is "done, dusted, finished," telling Deadline that the only way she would return to her role as Marianne 'Mare' Sheehan would be if "the story was too bloody good to resist". A challenging shoot for the whole crew, including series creator and writer Brad Ingelsby, Winslet adds, "It took a lot out of all of us filming Mare. We were filming during Covid. Brad’s the same. We’ll only do it again if the story’s compelling enough."
Now, it seems that bar may have been met, as Winslet has told the same publication that there's a "strong likelihood" season 2 will air in 2027.
She revealed last year, when she was editing her directorial debut Goodbye June, which is available to watch now on Netflix, "there was some conversations" about returning to Mare of Easttown.
"They were proper conversations around a timeframe when it could be possible," she said. "And so I think we probably will do it, and that’s the first time I’ve felt that."

Sadly for fans, it looks like they will still have a wait on their hands, with Winslet adding that "there’s a strong likelihood it would film sometime in 2027".
In what form Mare of Easttown would return, and what the story would be, remains to be seen. In recent months, Mark Ruffalo has teased that his show Task, which comes from the same creator as Mare of Easttown, Brad Ingelsby, and is set in the same area, could crossover with it.
In a separate interview with Deadline, Ruffalo said: "At some point those two [shows] might run into each other in the future, that’s what they’re saying. It’s not set, nothing’s set."

Mare of Easttown is set in a fictional suburb of Pennsylvania, and follows Winslet's Mare as she investigates the murder of a teenage mother while trying to keep her own life from falling apart.
Back in 2023, Julianne Nicholson, who played Mare's friend Lori in the series, told People that she is "definitely not waiting" for season 2, but said she would "definitely" reprise her role if it came up, and revealed that it's "not impossible" that it could.
