Channel 4's The Couple Next Door is returning for a second season, but writer David Allison has cooked up a shiny new story featuring a shiny new cast.
"The first series was about two couples that collided with each other – a square," he explained. "Whereas this is more two love triangles... so the dynamic is really different.
"The other thing is this is about characters who are a little bit older. They're in their 40s – it's about a mid-life crisis and there's different things going on in those relationships as well."
Allison went on to tease a "sexier, bigger and bolder" narrative than that explored in the first instalment, adding: "We’ve got this incredible crime story set in a hospital – it's really dark and twisted, and we've got this unbelievable new cast and you're going to love watching sparks fly between them."

The Couple Next Door season 2 release date: When will it air?
The series kicks off on Monday 14th July on Channel 4.
All six episodes will be available to stream from midnight. The first episode will also air that same night at 9pm on Channel 4.

The Couple Next Door season 2 plot: What's it about?
Season 2 revolves around Annabel Scholey's Charlotte, a heart surgeon, and her husband Jacob (Sam Palladio), a consultant anaesthetist.
From the outside looking in, they appear to be the perfect couple, but the arrival of mysterious new nurse Mia (Aggy K Adams) and the return of Charlotte's old flame Leo (Sendhil Ramamurthy) turns everything on its head.

"Leo's return sparks a change in Charlotte and Mia seizes the opportunity to work her way into Jacob and Charlotte's confidence, their street, and eventually even their bed, befriending cul-de-sac outcast Alan (Hugh Dennis) along the way," reads the official synopsis.
"But it’s not long before Mia’s past comes back to haunt her, leading Charlotte and Jacob to question who she really is, especially when patients at the hospital start mysteriously dying.
"One thing is clear - giving in to their desires could have deadly consequences."
