The second run of the disaster thriller, which will see Sophie Rundle reprise her leading role as detective Jo Marshall, will land on ITV1 and ITVX on Sunday 18th January at 9pm.

Set against the backdrop of the rising threat of flooding and moorland fires, season 2 will follow Jo and her new partner DS Sam Bradley (played by Jill Halfpenny), as they try to track down a killer following the discovery of a body in bizarre circumstances.

But Jo's efforts “bring her into direct conflict with powerful and influential forces within the town, ultimately drawing her into an investigation that becomes deeply personal”, the official synopsis teases.

“One that will require her to operate in secret if she is to have any hope of rooting out the corruption that has blighted the town's police force – and her own family – for decades.”

Alongside Rundle, additional returning cast members in season 2 include Nicholas Gleaves as Sergeant Mackie, whose corrupt ways were discovered by Jo in season 1 – only for Mackie to threaten to destroy her family’s reputation if she breathed a word.

The season ended on a big cliffhanger as Jo was left debating whether to turn him in or not.
