At the BAFTAs Games Awards 2026, Radio Times Gaming had the opportunity to catch up with Ben Starr on the red carpet, who was nominated for performer in a leading role as Verso, about his outfit, pre-launch thoughts on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s success and whether or not he would be up for reprising his role in a live-action film.

Whilst the best performer award ultimately went to cast mate Jennifer English as Maelle, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won best game, and Hades 2, in which Starr, err, stars, was up for two nominations as well.

We also had the chance to speak with Charlie Cox, who played Gustave, and he reckons that Robert Pattinson would be the best choice to physically portray him, but that they should still use his voice.

But as for whether or not Starr would like to play Verso, we posed the question, and he told us "No, I don't", adding that "I don't think there needs to be a film."

It seems like a big opportunity to pass up, given how successful Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been, which writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen and Lune actor Kirsty Rider didn’t expect, nor did Starr himself, who cautioned Monoco actor Rich Keeble about putting too much faith in the game before launch.

If nothing else, it would be a good fit for an adaptation just for the simple fact that it’s a brilliant story brought to life by a great cast.

Starr is quite content with his contribution, though, telling us "I got to play him in the game. I got to define the character in a way that I'm really, really happy with", and reckons that it's best that the film's director "let someone else take it over".

However, everyone loves a fan cast, and we were curious who Starr would pick if he were put in charge of casting an Expedition 33 film, but he was steadfast in his resolve, telling us, "I don't know. I'll let people decide. I won't give you a definitive answer."

Starr isn’t entirely opposed to the idea of a Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 film, saying that "I would love to be, of course, a part of it", but reckons the medium is what makes it special, saying "I think Expedition 33 is a brilliant video game, and that's what makes the story so impactful."
