There are just a few weeks to go before The Thursday Murder Club lands in cinemas ahead of its Netflix premiere – and the streamer has further ramped up the excitement amongst fans by sharing a brand new poster for the film.

The poster shows the films main cast – Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie – wearing quizzical expressions as they gather round a table, on top of which sits a slice of cake with a knife rather ominously plunged into it.

Alongside the image, a caption reads: "Only four Thursdays to go. Based on @richardosman’s bestselling novel, The Thursday Murder Club is coming to Netflix 28 August!"

While that date is the correct one for the film's streaming debut, eager fans will actually have the chance to watch the movie in full six days before – as it is getting a brief theatrical run in select cinemas from Friday 22nd August.

Based on the first entry in Richard Osman's hugely successful series of mystery novels, the film is directed by Chris Columbus and features a number of other household names alongside its starry lead quartet – with David Tennant, Naomi Ackie, Sir Jonathan Pryce and Richard E Grant among those set to appear.

The new poster follows a number of first-look images that have been posted over the last few months, while the first trailer for the hotly-anticipated film was released back in May.

That footage introduced us to Mirren's Elizabeth, Brosnan's Ron and Kingsley's Ibrahim as they met Imrie's Joyce for the first time, while investigating a cold case from 1973.

The official synopsis for the film says: "Based on Richard Osman’s international bestselling novel of the same name, The Thursday Murder Club follows four irrepressible retirees – Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie) – who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun.

"When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands."

The Thursday Murder Club will be released in cinemas on 22nd August before landing on Netflix on 28th August 2025. Sign up for Netflix from £5.99 a month. Netflix is also available on Sky Glass and Virgin Media Stream.
