*Warning: Superman spoilers ahead*

After much anticipation, James Gunn's Superman has finally flown into cinemas – with David Corenswet following in the footsteps of Christopher Reeve, Henry Cavill and countless other stars in donning the iconic blue and red suit.

The new take on the last son of Krypton – which swaps the self-serious brooding of the recent Zack Snyder incarnation for a more playful, goofy approach – has divided critics so far, with our own 3-star review declaring it "an entertaining relaunch" in spite of its flaws.

But, of course, this is just the start for Gunn's new-look DCU. The film is the first entry in a completely rebooted continuity that disregards the often maligned (and increasingly scattershot) DC Extended Universe, which consisted of 16 films between 2013 and 2023.

Gunn has already hired a number of directors including Cruella's Craig Gillespie and the prolific James Mangold to helm future instalments, with some lesser spotted characters such as Clayface and Swamp Thing among those set to get their own solo movies.

But next up is a new film following a character a little closer to the Man of Steel: his cousin Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The character is set to be played by House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock, and many fans have been wondering if she might show up at some point in Superman ahead of her full debut next year.

Read on for everything you need to know.

Is Milly Alcock's Supergirl in Superman?

Yes – but only in a brief cameo at the very end of the film.

The scene in question sees Superman back at his Fortress of Solitude in the Antarctic, as he gets some much needed rest and relaxation following his heroic exploits throughout the film.

Supergirl shows up at the Fortress seemingly a little tipsy and desperate to reclaim her beloved dog Krypto. The dog is clearly glad to see her, with the pair seen engaging in some slightly raucous play after he launches himself towards her, prompting Superman to comment that it's no wonder he never behaves.

That's about all we see, but it gives as a nice little insight into the character and her relationship with her cousin before we get to see her take centre stage next summer (Supergirl is currently dated for release on Friday 26th July).

Not too much has been revealed about the film just yet – as we'd expect – but an intriguing logline reads: "While celebrating her 21st birthday, Kara Zor-El travels across the galaxy with Krypto, during which she meets the young Ruthye Marye Knoll and goes on a murderous quest for revenge."

Child star Eve Ridley, who has previously been seen in two episode's of Netflix's 3 Body Problem, will take on the aforementioned role of Ruthye Marye Knoll, while there are also parts for Matthias Schoenaerts (The Regime), David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer), Emily Beecham (The Pursuit of Love) and a cameo for Jason Momoa as Lobo.

Gunn previously gave ComicBook.com a little more information about the DCU version of Alcock's character, teasing: "Supergirl, especially the DCU Supergirl, she's kind of a mess. I mean, she's had real issues growing up. And it is based on the comic where she watched person after person after person dying in front of her as her piece of the planet disintegrated."

Ahead of Superman's release, Alcock had been asked in interviews if she might appear in the new film, but remained very coy in her response, telling Extra that she "can't speak" and didn't "want to get sued".

Superman is showing in UK cinemas from Friday 11th July.
