How to watch the I Know What You Did Last Summer films in order
Here's how to catch up on all the films ahead of the fifth entry in the slasher franchise.

It's the summer slasher event of the year, and there's no better time to dive into one of the defining teen horror franchises of the late '90s: I Know What You Did Last Summer.
From the original 1997 hit to its upcoming 2025 legacy sequel, the franchise has carved out (with the Fisherman's hook) a lasting legacy with masked killers, seaside secrets, and plenty of blood-soaked twists.
Along the way, it’s spawned three films, a streaming reboot, and now a hotly anticipated return that reunites Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr on the big screen, while introducing a new generation of teens grappling with the deadly consequences of one very bad decision.
Whether you're starting for the first time or need a refresher, here’s how to watch the full I Know What You Did Last Summer saga from the beginning.
I Know What You Did Last Summer movies in order
1. I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
Released: 1997
The Jim Gillespie-directed film that launched the franchise: I Know What You Did Last Summer follows four teens who accidentally hit a man with their car and vow to keep it a secret. A year later, they find themselves stalked by a hook-wielding killer who seems to know exactly what they did.
With a then-fresh-faced cast including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe, the film became an iconic teen slasher hit that helped define late '90s horror.
Where to watch: Available to buy or rent via Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
2. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
Released: 1998
Directed by Danny Cannon, the sequel picks up with Julie James (Hewitt) still haunted by the events of the previous summer. A holiday to the Bahamas seems like the perfect escape, until the killing starts again...
With new additions like Brandy and Mekhi Phifer, the sequel dials up the suspense and explores the origins behind the mysterious Fisherman killer.
Where to watch: Available to buy or rent via Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
3. I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer
Released: 2006
The often forgotten, direct-to-video, third instalment takes matters to a new town with a new cast, including Brooke Nevin as Amber, David Paetkau as Colby Patterson, and Torrey DeVitto as Zoe. When another group of teens cover up a deadly accident during a botched 4th July prank, the familiar threats begin again.
While not connected to the original characters, it revisits the franchise’s slasher roots, though it's generally considered a standalone.
Where to watch: Available to buy or rent via Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
4. I Know What You Did Last Summer (TV series)
Released: 2021
The Amazon Prime Video series reimagines the original premise for a new generation. Set in Hawaii, it follows a group of teens haunted by a fatal secret from graduation night. One year later, someone begins picking them off one by one.
Unlike the original film, which focused on suspense and mystery in a tight 100-minute runtime, the series stretches the narrative across eight episodes, allowing for a bit more character development. The show also takes a more modern, Gen Z–focused approach, with social media, sexuality and identity as wider themes.
The cast includes Madison Iseman as Lennon, Brianne Tju as Margot, Ezekiel Goodman as Dylan, Ashley Moore as Riley, and Sebastian Amoruso as Johnny.
Where to watch: Streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
5. I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)
When five friends accidentally cause a fatal car accident, they cover up their tracks and agree to keep it a secret (again). One year later, the past returns to haunt them, as they learn someone knows what they did last summer (again). Stalked by a new Fisherman-style killer, they quickly seek help from two survivors of the 1997 Southport massacre.
Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge), the cast is led by Madelyn Cline as Danica, Chase Sui Wonders as Ava, Jonah Hauer‑King as Milo, and Tyriq Withers as Teddy. Rounding out the cast is Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel and Austin Nichols.
On returning to the franchise, Hewitt told ScreenRant her one proviso for bringing Julia back was that the character had not let go of the trauma from 1997, which shaped Hewitt's reprisal as she "really wanted to lean into that".
"Also, I think Julia is somebody who has spent 27 years grieving the girl that was on the road that night that never got to continue," Hewitt added. "I wanted to see that in her, obviously, in a very quick storytelling of her time in the movie. And I feel like we did that, so I was really happy about that."
I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) is in cinemas from Friday 18th July.
