George Rainsford, who plays Call the Midwife’s Jimmy, is moving up in the medical profession – as a Casualty doctor, RadioTimes.com can reveal.

The actor, whose character is the love interest of Jessica Raine's midwife Jenny in the BBC1 period drama phenomenon, is to take up a post as new Casualty regular Ethan.

Described by the BBC as a studious “witty whizz kid”, Rainsford's character has an onscreen brother called Caleb – a  “pure adrenaline junkie”. Caleb will be played by Richard Winsor, the star of British urban teen movie Streetdance 3D.

The pair will begin filming at BBC Wales’ Roath Lock Studios later this year, with audiences able to catch them on screen for the first time in early 2014.

Casualty executive producer Oliver Kent, said: “The arrival of Ethan and Caleb will instantly change the dynamic of the ED.

“Whilst very different characters, one thing they will have in common is an ability to charm, so expect sparks to fly.  We can’t wait to start filming and are thrilled to have George and Richard join the team.”
