Netflix has announced the launch of a new artificial intelligence feature designed to help users decide what to watch based on what they’re in the mood for.

The new feature, which is called AI Discover and is currently being tested by a limited group of US subscribers on supported TVs, introduces a new tab on the Netflix TV app, where users can search through themed recommendations such as 'Quick Watches', 'Scare Me' and 'Family Movie Night'.

Other themes include 'Workplace Comedy Favourites', 'Family Scandal Sagas' and 'Royal Court Intrigue'.

Viewers start by picking a theme, each previewed with a clip of a show or movie, which then brings up matching recommendations, while more specific themes allow viewers to narrow their search.

And if those recommendations feel off the mark, viewers can choose 'Something Different' for a fresh set.

There is also a 'Tune Your Recommendations' button, which subscribers can use to ask Netflix to keep a recommendation or ask the platform not to suggest a particular title again.

Netflix will remember the feedback within AI Discover, which "is powered by a new intelligence layer we’ve been building that responds to what members tell us in real time and keeps learning," the streamer said in its announcement.

The streamer added: "Think of AI Discover as our test kitchen: we're trying out new recipes for discovery, and your use and feedback help us decide which ones to keep, improve, or serve up next. Some may even make their way into the main Netflix experience."

Netflix also said it will begin rolling the feature out in the US to members who use Netflix in English on supported TVs.

It added that it plans to expand the rollout of AI Discover further in the coming weeks.
