The TV presenter, who has entertained and inspired millions of viewers with his gardening passion since he joined the programme in 2023, announced last month that he would be leaving the show.

On Thursday (5 November), Don revealed on social media that his last appearance will come this Friday.

"It began 23 years ago, 16 years we’ve been filming in this garden with my various dogs and that’s come to an end," he continued in a video, in which he can be seen sitting in his garden and stroking his canine friend and regular scene-stealer, Ned.

He added: "But it’s a brilliant programme as ever and it's been a complete privilege to be part of it. So join me on Friday for the last time. Ok Ned. Shall we go."

The official Gardeners' World Instagram account also shared the post, writing alongside in the caption: "It’s the end of an era as Monty presents his final programme of this series from Longmeadow this Friday.

"Tune in at 8pm on BBC Two for an emotional farewell to a much-loved chapter of Gardeners' World."

Don’s garden in Longmeadow in Hertfordshire has served as the setting for the programme since 2011, when it moved there from Berryfields, a rented garden in Stratford-in-Avon, following his recovery from a stroke.

Speaking about his decision to step down from the programme recently in Gardeners' World Magazine, Don explained that the demands of the role rarely ended when the cameras stopped filming.

"The commute is delightfully short, but when I go home I take the job with me, seven days a week, 24 hours a day," he said.

He continued: "Then, one day this summer, I woke up and knew it was time to stop. Simple as that. They say of sportspeople wondering when to retire, 'You just know. Well, I just knew."

Gardeners' World continues on Friday 6 November on BBC Two.
