Now we know exactly when, as it has been revealed that the first two episodes of Down Cemetery Road will arrive on Apple TV+ on Wednesday 29th October. Further episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays until 10th December.

The news about the series, which Apple has noted is "highly anticipated", was announced alongside the release of three new first-look images, showing stars Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson in their roles.

Thompson will play Zöe Boehm, the character created by Herron who has also been at the centre of three further books - The Last Voice You Hear, Why We Die and Smoke and Whispers.

Meanwhile, Wilson will play Sarah Tucker, who becomes obsessed with finding her neighbour, a girl who goes missing in the aftermath of a house explosion.

The series sees Sarah enlist the help of Zöe, a private detective. Together, they find themselves in a complex conspiracy that reveals people long believed dead are still among the living, while the living are fast joining the dead.

The adaptation has been written by Morwenna Banks, who has also written four previous episodes of Slow Horses.

The series is also set to star Adeel Akhtar, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Tom Goodman-Hill, Darren Boyd, Tom Riley, Adam Godley, Sinead Matthews, Ken Nwosu, Fehinti Balogun and Aiysha Hart.

Earlier this year, Herron told Radio Times that while he had only seen "a little bit" of the series at the time, it was looking "absolutely tremendous".
