Amandaland will be released on Netflix on Thursday 12 March, joining Motherland, which is currently available to watch on the streamer along with BBC iPlayer.

The spin-off series follows Amanda (Lucy Punch) as she forced to downsize after her divorce, all while juggling raising teenagers, dealing with modern motherhood horrors and navigating a tense relationship with her mother Felicity (Joanna Lumley).

The series also introduces audiences to new characters, including Amanda's downstairs neighbour Mal (Samuel Anderson), couple Della and Fi (Siobhán McSweeney and Rochenda Sandall) and South African property developer Johannes (Peter Serafinowicz).

The comedy series was quickly renewed for a second season following its debut on BBC One, which averaged 5.7 million viewers, with the first episode attracting 7.4 million, making it the BBC's second biggest new comedy launch in recent years, behind Ludwig.

Speaking of the renewal, co-writer and creator Holly Walsh said she had "been bowled over by the response" to the first run and couldn't wait to get started on the next series.

Meanwhile, Sharon Horgan – whose production company Merman were behind the spin-off – said that "to have a loyal audience of this size is just beyond your hopes and expectations".

She continued: "The incredible cast and writers, director and production team worked so hard on this show and it's so wonderful to see that hard work pay off. Special thanks to Lucy for being the most extraordinary front woman and to the BBC for having such faith in the idea of Amandaland from the off.”

In our 4-star review of Amandaland season 1, we said the signs were that "Amandaland could join the ranks of the great comedy spin-offs" and that "It's fun just to be back in this world, even if it is in a different postcode."

Amandaland will air on Netflix from Thursday 12 March. Add Amandaland to your watchlist on the Radio Times: What to Watch app – download now for daily TV recommendations, features and more.
