Apple's work is never done as the tech giant has released yet another member of the popular iPhone 17 range.

Last year we were up to our ears covering the release of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17 Air and standard iPhone 17. Now, the company has turned their attention to their smaller branch of mid-range phones with the release of the iPhone 17e.

Following on from last year's iPhone 16e – which this author personally succumbed to in the Black Friday sales last year – the 17e is a lower-priced alternative for iPhone users.

It offers a fast, smooth and high-definition display with a strong 48MP camera and plenty of battery life. The casing is also a sturdy aluminium and this year it comes in an exciting new Soft Pink Colourway. The only difference really is it lacks some of the premium features Apple likes to shout about, like 0.5x zoom and the Always-On Display.

However, if that doesn't matter too much to you. Here's how and when you can buy the new iPhone 17e today.

What is the iPhone 17e UK release date?

The iPhone 17e is available for pre-order from 2:15pm (GMT) on Wednesday 4 March.

Shipping will then begin from 11 March.

How much does the iPhone 17e cost?

The iPhone 17e costs £599 for the 256GB model and £799 for the 256GB model. This is the same price as its most recent predecessor, the 16e, and £400 cheaper than the standard iPhone 17.

For the first time you can also buy this in instalments starting from £24.95.

iPhone 17e design: What does the new phone look like?

The 17e has a similar design to the 16e; a 6.1-inch screen with an aluminium frame and Super Retina XDR display. This new model should also be tougher with 3x better scratch resistance.

A big change is in the colours as the iPhone 17e has White, Black and the entirely unique colourway of Soft Pink – no doubt a response to the calls for a pink iPhone 17 Pro Max.

iPhone 17e vs iPhone 16e

The iPhone 17e has seen some improvements on the last model. To start it features a newer A19 chip (giving it faster speeds), a longer battery life of up to 26 hours, and more storage.

Otherwise a lot of the features are the same: a single 48MP camera with 1x or 2x optical zoom, 4K video playback and access to Apple Intelligence features like photo editing.

Overall, this newer model has only tweaked and smoothed some of the rougher edges of the 16e, with the new colourway being the biggest draw.

iPhone 17e vs iPhone 17

There are far bigger differences between the iPhone 17e and the full priced iPhone 17. To start, the 78 has two 48MP Fusion cameras to the 17e's one, although both can generate super-high-resolution photos and what Apple calls 'Next-Generation Portraits'. Plus, the iPhone 17 can also do the highly popular 0.5x zoom which the 17e can't.

The 17 is also slightly faster, and has up to 30 hours of battery life, as well as newer modifications like the Always-On display and ProMotion technology.

In essence, the 17 has a lot more of the premium photography and video features we've come to expect from Apple, while the 17e functions as a perfectly usable phone for the day to day.

How to buy the iPhone 17e in the UK today

You can pre-order the iPhone 17e from 2:15pm today. You can pre-order at Apple, or we'd suggest looking at some of the networks or third-party retailers, as they're more likely to include extra deals or perks.
