With rafts of layoffs, games getting pulled, and AI potentially ruining best laid Steam Machine and Steam Frame plans, genuinely good news in the gaming world can come as a bit of a shock, so it’s only fair that many are hesitant to accept the rumours swirling that we might see a new Witcher 3 DLC come out this year.

Will it really happen? Well, it’s perhaps more likely than you think!

Certainly, we’d greatly appreciate some actually good Witcher content, as we were not that impressed with The Witcher season 4.

What’s more, it would tide us over until The Witcher 4 and The Witcher 1 remake, which has been curiously absent ever since it was announced.

But, before we get carried away with hope, let’s delve into what the rumours are saying, and what the likelihood of such a DLC actually happening even is!

What are the Witcher 3 DLC rumours?

Other than the fact that there is a well-substantiated rumour that there is going to be a new Witcher 3 DLC, we only know so much about what it will actually entail, but more details have come to light in recent days.

The biggest rumour is that The Witcher 3 DLC will take place in a Dune-like desert region called Zerrikania, and would be similar in size and length to Blood and Wine, the last DLC for the Witcher 3.

For The Witcher 3 faithful, you may remember that Zerrikania is referenced multiple times throughout Blood and Wine, with a Zerrikanian Manticore School mentioned.

The Zerrikania region features in The Witcher tabletop RPG, so it’s not entirely new ground to tread for seasoned fans.

Supposedly, developers Fool’s Theory are the team tasked with creating such an expansion, the same folks behind The Witcher 1 remake.

There’s also speculation that this rumoured DLC would focus on Ciri taking over from Geralt in some fashion, but of course, this is all hearsay. As for whether it will actually happen, keep on scrolling!

Will there actually be a new Witcher 3 DLC?

At the tail end of 2025, we started to hear murmurs that CD Projekt RED were up to something regarding The Witcher 3, and as the weeks have gone by, we’ve learned more and more about this supposed DLC.

The rumours began when Borys Nieśpielak, a well-regarded Polish games industry figure, stated on his podcast said that a new DLC was coming this year for The Witcher 3.

Of course, anyone can come out and say just about anything, but in a follow-up question in a Eurogamer article, Nieśpielak pointed to a quote from a CD Projekt Red earnings call, in which, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz stated "Given our current progress, there is a chance that new content hinted upon in recent calls and reports may see release in the coming year”.

Then, in a later news piece also from Eurogamer, Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski was quoted as saying, "We expect the next paid add-on (DLC) for The Witcher 3 to be released in May 2026.” and that they are “100 percent certain CDPR will release significant new content this year".

Chrzanowski also added that the “release should kick off the proper marketing campaign for The Witcher 4”.

What’s more, IGN Poland has supposedly been in on gossip for years, and this is where the information about Zerrikania has stemmed from.

With all this in mind, with so many trusted voices lending the rumours credence, it does seem likely that we may get a new DLC for The Witcher 3 in 2026!
