For many fans of the series, Nioh is the pinnacle of combat in games, and with some big innovations coming in 3, we could be in for a real treat.

If you're one of those fans excited to jump in, here's what you need to know about the Nioh 3 release date, pre-orders, gameplay, story and more

When is the Nioh 3 release date?

Nioh 3 releases on 6th February 2026 for PC and PlayStation 5.

Unfortunately, if you're an Xbox owner, you're going to be missing out. The Nioh series is yet to come to Xbox consoles in any form, and it doesn't look like that's going to change with Nioh 3.

The same can be said for Nintendo Switch 2 as well, so we hope you've got a PS5 or a decent PC knocking around!

Can I pre-order Nioh 3?

Yes, pre-orders are now available for Nioh 3.

PC players can purchase the game directly from the Steam store for £64.99 / $69.99 for the Standard Edition, or £94.99 / $109.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition.

PS5 players can also pre-order the game directly from the PlayStation Store for the same prices.

Nioh 3 gameplay and story details

Like the previous two games, Nioh 3 sees you travelling around Japan, slaying yōkai and levelling up your character.

Beyond the huge variety of weapons and skills that made Nioh 1 and 2 so good, players now have the option to swap seamlessly between samurai and ninja playstyles.

The samurai style is more similar to previous Nioh gameplay, while the ninja style offers faster, evasion-focused gameplay.

For the first time ever, Nioh 3 will also introduce an open world to the series. Instead of the previous, linear levels, Nioh 3's levels will let players explore and discover points of interest, side quests and combat challenges.

As for story, players take control of Shōgun-to-be Tokugawa Takechiyo. When his brother Togukawa Kunimatsu leads an army of yōkai against Edo Castle to overthrow Takechiyo, the player is sent back in time by the guardian spirit Kusanagi.

From here, players will move through Japan's history, taking on yōkai in the Heian, Sengoku and Bakumatsu periods, meeting historical characters and fighting to save Edo in his own time.
